Lawn, Garden & More

Southwest Fertilizer opened in 1955 as a Fertilizer and Feed store serving southwest Houston.  In the late 1960’s Southwest Fertilizer moved into a larger facility, at 5828 Bissonnet, to better serve our growing customer base.
About Us

The store was founded on the core principles of providing exceptional customer service, and carrying a large selection of high-quality products. Our commitment to these principles continues today, even as we expand our product lines and our selection of services, for you, our loyal customers.

We at Southwest Fertilizer are proud of our uniquely extensive selection of well-known, as well as harder-to-find, lawn and garden care products, for beginner or expert gardeners. We'll always stock the “old reliables”, but will also continue to add newer products, as we discover them, to help you achieve your most productive lawn and garden.

Our products and services now include:

  • Organic and traditional lawn and garden fertilizers, pest control, potting soils, compost, weed killers and many other grass and plant care products

  • Dog food, cat food, horse feed, chicken feed and other pet food/supplies (including poultry fencing)

  • Bird food, bird feeders, hummingbird food and feeders plus birding supplies

  • Vegetable, fruit, herb and flower seed packets or pack your own seeds from our bulk bin. A variety of live plants are available too.

  • Garden tools (hedge clippers, pruning shears, garden hoes, shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows)

  • Watering tools and hoses

  • Seed and fertilizer spreaders

  • Planters (flower pots, plant pots - plastic, clay and hanging)

  • Garden accents and accessories (including garden gloves and hats)

  • Lawn mowers (gas and battery operated), electric and battery powered chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers, and garden edgers (gas and electric)

  • Full service lawn mower repair, chainsaw sharpening and other small garden equipment repair

We even offer personalized analysis to help you identify your specific lawn and garden issues. Just bring in a sample of your plant, tree, grass, weed or insect problem and we’ll take a look at it, using our on-premises microscope, if needed. Then we’ll provide traditional, natural and organic solutions for treatment, based on your preferences.

So stop by the store. Our experienced, knowledgeable and friendly staff are eager to assist you. And we’re pet friendly, too (leashes/carriers are recommended).

Together, let’s make growing fun!
